Professor Sterling H. Schoen taught labor relations and human resources in the Graduate School of Business at Washington University from 1950 until he retired in 1988.In 1966, he founded the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, with the purpose of hastening the entry of minorities into management positions in Corporate America. The Consortium initially included Washington University, Indiana University, and the University of Wisconsin. Professor Schoen directed the day-to-day activities of the group until 1980.

He was the author or co-author of several textbooks including, "Supervision: The Management of Organizational Resources," "Cases in Collective Bargaining and Industrial Relations," and "Cases and Experiential Exercises in Human Resource Management."

Dr. Schoen received numerous honors during his tenure. In 1991, he was recognized by the Consortium for his distinguished service and leadership. In 1988, he was chosen teacher of the year by the Washington University Graduate School. In 1976, he was named Man of the Year by the Association for the Integration of Management in New York.

Professor Schoen was born in Daggert, Michigan, and reared in Des Peres, Wisconsin. He earned a bachelor's degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and a Doctorate from the University of Michigan.
